Awards and Financial Support for Attendance
FEMS (www.fems-microbiology.org)
FEMS is a Federation of European Microbiological Societies, with its main mission to advance and unify microbiology knowledge. FEMS brings together 46 member societies from 36 European countries, covering over thirty thousand microbiologists. Members can apply for research fellowships, visiting scientist grants, young scientist meeting grants and/or support when organizing a meeting. These benefits are restricted to members only. FEMS facilitates exchange of scientific knowledge to all microbiologists in Europe and worldwide by publishing five microbiology journals.
FEMS is providing support for this meeting in the form of a Meeting Grant and awards to Young Scientists. An application form for a Young Scientist Meeting Grant is available here with instructions (PDF or DOC). Funds (250-600 Euros), on a competitive basis will be available to cover all or partial travel expenses and under the condition that the applicant presents (oral or poster). Completed forms should be sent (scanned or by post) to the local meeting organisers by 1st Feb 2012.
All applications must be accompanied by an abstract for a poster / oral presentation. Applicants will be informed whether or not they have been awarded a grant by 5th Feb 2012.
The Society for General Microbiology (SGM) (http://www.sgm.ac.uk)
The SGM was founded in 1945 and is now the largest microbiological society in Europe. It has over 5000 members of whom 75% are resident in the UK. The remainder are located in more than 60 countries throughout the world. Almost all full members are qualified to doctoral or higher level; there are 1000 postgraduate student members. Other classes of membership include Schools, Technicians and Corporate. The SGM provides a common meeting ground for scientists working in research and in fields with applications in microbiology, including medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmaceuticals, numerous industries, agriculture, food, the environment and education. The majority of members are employees of universities, research institutes, health services, government agencies and small to large multinational companies.
The SGM is supporting invited speaker expenses and also is offering a Communications Prize (£200) for best young speaker. Student members of the SGM can also apply for financial support to attend the meeting. Such applications must be made directly to the society.

The Society of Applied Microbiology (SfAM) is the voice of applied microbiology and oldest microbiology society in the UK. Its object is to advance for the benefit of the public the science of microbiology in its application to the environment, human and animal health, agriculture and industry.
The SfAM is providing support to this conference in the form of speaker expenses. Student members of SfAM can also apply to the SfAM for support to attend the meeting.
