Welcome to the 5th European Spores Conference
The 5th European Spore Conference provides the only worldwide forum for scientists with an interest in spores and spore-forming bacteria. The conference has followed earlier meetings held in Slovakia and Italy and the 5th conference is the first to be held in the UK.
Confirmed speakers now include:
- Rich Losick, Harvard University, USA.
"The Multicellular Life Style of B. subtilis" - Trevor Lawley, Wellcome Trust Sanger Unit, Cambridge, UK.
"Genetic and Molecular Basis of Clostridium difficile spore-mediated transmission" - Peter Setlow, University Connecticut, USA.
"Germination of Spores of Bacillus Species: The Last Frontier" - Per Einar Granum, Norwegian School of Veterinary Science, Oslo, Norway.
"Bacillus licheniformis germination: Poor germination depends on small differences in the receptor sequence" - Alain Brisson, University of Bordeaux, France.
"B. clausii: spore coat structure and cell interaction" - Per Bullough, University of Sheffield, UK.
"Surface architecture of endospores of the Bacillus cereus/anthracis/thuringiensis family at the subnanometer scale" - Nigel Minton, University of Nottingham, UK.
"Clostridium spores as anti-cancer agents" - Ben Raymond, Royal Holloway, University of London, UK.
"Microbial cooperation in the real world: the ecology of virulence in Bacillus thuringiensis"
We welcome contributions from PhDs and post-docs in particular. Contributions are welcome in all areas of science relevant to bacterial spore-formers but specifically we will attempt to organise sessions in the following areas.
Oral presentations will be chosen from abstracts submitted before 15th February. Those interested in giving an oral presentation should send an abstract as soon as possible to s.cutting@rhul.ac.uk. Registration is not necessary for abstract submission and can be completed later (please note registration deadlines).
- Spore structure and function.
- Developmental gene regulation.
- Spore formation in the Bacilli and Clostridia.
- The role of spores in infection and disease.
- Applications including probiotics.
Awards and prizes supporting young scientists are AVAILABLE. Click here to find out more!
